A Sunny Market With Bunnies and Parasols…

Just a quick thank you for everyone who attended the Gap Filler Vintage market on the book fridge site at the weekend. I love you all!

Queen Stitch!

Queen Stitch!

It was the most amazingly glorious autumn day – I got to meet even more lovely customers, crafters and stall holders, frolicked with parasols, tried on lots of vintage outfits and petted bunnies… oh and sold some work (a cherry on top).

Our favorite dreamboat mama and all round babe that is Miss Alice Andersen from Our Tiny Landscapes was also present with her vintage frocks, and was as always, my fantasy neighbor –  it’s like she’s the Monica and Rachel to my Chandler and Joey (uh…90’s sitcom references, are those acceptable yet?…)

For those not based in Christchurch, the ‘Gap Filler’ initiative is another example of how post earthquake Christchurch is evolving into a really unique and creative place to live. Various vacant sites around town (where buildings once stood) are being converted into exhibition spaces, pop up events, and community projects – everyone is welcome and each one is totally unique.

This particular Gap Filler site used to house a block of retail shops on the outskirts of the CBD – it now contains a mini golf course and converted fridge that acts as a makeshift book exchange – you pop along, drop off a paperback and take one that takes your fancy.

You can read more about the Gap Filler project HERE.

I guess what I’m trying to convey is that living in a recovering disaster zone, where essentially our CBD no longer exists, isn’t always as bleak as you may imagine. The recovery and need to mold something new from the dust is presenting many exciting opportunities for the creative community that it would never get in a…um…normal functioning city!

I feel we are finally getting to the point where you can catch glimmers of the super creative, exciting and modern city that we are going to become.

Anyway, here’s some pictures from the market! Enjoy! xx

This Little Queenie Went to Market…

Phew! Well blimey, wasn’t that just the best fun a girl can have fully clothed?

So Queen Stitch made her live debut last night at the Twilight Vintage Market – I’ll be honest, the Larry David in me was a little anxious of this unfamiliar social situation, but the sun shone, the beer flowed and literally everyone was so bloody nice and scrumptious – I could kiss you all right now!

Thanks to all who attended, took the time to look at my work and gave me such positive feedback. It’s quite comforting to know that after so many many maaaaany hours sitting at home stitching away, strangers from Chch and all over the world actually understood and liked my work!

The fantabulous Miss Alice Anderson from Our Tiny Landscapes was the perfect co-host, and our coordinating beehives were snapped by a number of tourists, so if all else fails perhaps we set up some kind of 1960’s rockabilly girl group tribute act in Japan?

My next project is setting up my own store on Felt, so watch this space…

Enjoy the pics from the market xoxo

EVENT! 8th MARCH! EVENT!…

Come see me and my wares and other lovely people - Friday March 8th!

Come see me and my wares and other lovely people – Friday March 8th!

So! This Friday is my big (slash a little awkward and nervy) debut at Anissa Victoria’s Twilight Market, 5-9pm at the Pallet Pavilion on the old Crowne Plaza site (cnr Kilmore and Durham St).

I will be sharing a site with the fabulous Miss Alice Andersen and her vintage frocks. She will probably be the one yelling at me like the good stage momma that she is (it’s for my own good).

There will be SO MUCH great stuff and good times had by all. I mean, it will definitely be an evening that you will be telling your grandkids about in years to come.

You should definitely come and show some support to this new slice of Chch life.

See you there bearcubs! x

Now We Can All Stalk Each Other…

22-02-13 004

Look! I made little card things (in my lunchbreak bosses, in my lunchbreak)! I’m so legit it BURNS.

On one side is my logo (no shit). On the other is my blog address, fb page etc. You gotta connect with the kids and their new fangled technologies y’know (otherwise we will NEVER live to see the hoverboard).

This is also my creepy stalker face I have been practicing   If I like the look of you I will probably approach you with one of these at the Market, garble something unidentifiable, toss the card at you, trip over my own feet then run off.

If this happens, please don’t laugh, just pity purchase one of my items. That will make it all better.
