Just a quick thank you for everyone who attended the Gap Filler Vintage market on the book fridge site at the weekend. I love you all!
It was the most amazingly glorious autumn day – I got to meet even more lovely customers, crafters and stall holders, frolicked with parasols, tried on lots of vintage outfits and petted bunnies… oh and sold some work (a cherry on top).
Our favorite dreamboat mama and all round babe that is Miss Alice Andersen from Our Tiny Landscapes was also present with her vintage frocks, and was as always, my fantasy neighbor – it’s like she’s the Monica and Rachel to my Chandler and Joey (uh…90’s sitcom references, are those acceptable yet?…)
For those not based in Christchurch, the ‘Gap Filler’ initiative is another example of how post earthquake Christchurch is evolving into a really unique and creative place to live. Various vacant sites around town (where buildings once stood) are being converted into exhibition spaces, pop up events, and community projects – everyone is welcome and each one is totally unique.
This particular Gap Filler site used to house a block of retail shops on the outskirts of the CBD – it now contains a mini golf course and converted fridge that acts as a makeshift book exchange – you pop along, drop off a paperback and take one that takes your fancy.
You can read more about the Gap Filler project HERE.
I guess what I’m trying to convey is that living in a recovering disaster zone, where essentially our CBD no longer exists, isn’t always as bleak as you may imagine. The recovery and need to mold something new from the dust is presenting many exciting opportunities for the creative community that it would never get in a…um…normal functioning city!
I feel we are finally getting to the point where you can catch glimmers of the super creative, exciting and modern city that we are going to become.
Anyway, here’s some pictures from the market! Enjoy! xx
(P.S – A reminder that all of Queen Stitch’s work can be purchased from the online Felt store – HERE)
